The Butterfly’s Evil Spell revolves around the world of theatre, music and dance in which Federico García Lorca actively participated, focusing on the dances of his time, a fundamental moment of modernisation of Spanish culture. The play explores, establishes and gives splendour to the choreographies and dances with which Lorca worked, which he saw or could have seen, tried, observed and confirmed throughout his life and at the time of his death.
The Ballet Flamenco de Andalucía, the Regional Andalusian government’s institutional dance company, was founded more than twenty-five years ago. Since then, it has been very active in theatres all over Spain, in addition to achieving a relevant presence in international cultural programmes. Its brilliant career has been recognised with many prizes, including the National Choreography award, several Max awards and several Giradillo awards at the Flamenco Biennial of Seville.
