2.00 h (w/intermission) Neoclassical and classical dance

Eyes wide shut, with choreography by Viktor Ishchuk, first soloist of the Theatre of the Opera of Kyiv, founder and director of the company, is a neoclassical- style piece that submerges into the music of J. S. Bach, F. Chopin and S. Rachmaninov. It is based on the book by Arthur Schnitzler The Novella of Dreams and the feature film by Stanley Kubrick Eyes Wide Shut. Since it was premiered in December, 2021 at the National Theatre of Opera and Dance of Kyiv, it forms part of the theatre’s permanent repertoire.
The second part is a succession of numbers that include the divertissement of masterpieces of world classic ballet, such as Don-Quixotte, Giselle, Swan Lake, Paquita, Le Corsaire and Sleeping Beauty.
The Kyiv Ballet’s main objectives includes conserving the traditions and the essence of the purest classical ballet. Due to the sobriety of the choreographies, the perfection of their lines, the virtuosity of its soloists and the brightness and grandeur of its sets and costumes, each performance is a feast for the senses.
The year 2022 will be marked in our memory with the red ink and thick strokes that describe the tragedy that war represents. Ana Sophia Scheller joined the Kyiv Opera in 2019 and at present, due to the current conflict, directs the Kyiv Ballet company as a refuge for its artists, to allow them to show their talent and the values they represent to the world, and continue transmitting emotions through their movements, of which Spain and Portugal will be privileged witnesses.
