The bass guitarist, singer and multi-instrumentalist Richard Bona is one of the African musicians who has best succeeded in merging the musical sounds and traditions of his native Africa with the European influence and the best of American jazz. Together with Alfredo Rodriguez, the musical director of all the recent projects of Quincy Jones, who considers him “a genius, the best pianist in the world”, and with a sextet, which adds cooler and vigour to his acoustic palette, Bona explores with skill and personality the many affinities between central African and Afro-Cuban music, which are so close and have evolved so much separately.
