2022 NATIONAL AWARD FOR CONTEMPORARY MUSIC GRANTED BY THE MINISTRY OF CULTURE AND SPORTS

“Terrified
they seek a familiar flower for shelter
and they are frightened by the vastness of the countryside.”
William Carlos Williams

“I started composing this new work on the 21st of March, 2020. It was recorded in the course of one year in different cities: Barcelona, Pontós, Madrid, Jerez, Buenos Aires, Coatepec (Mexico) and Havana. During the creation of Género imposible (2020-22), Elena Córdoba taught me this beautiful poem by William Carlos Williams. It is the backbone of this show, of this album and of my whole life. To put order to vastness, flower by flower.
When I was 18 someone told me that before performing hara-kiri, a samurai drew a haiku in the shape of a circle. I drew this circle, this cover, and kept it for many years. This marvelous line symbolizes many things: the soul, the body, with no beginning, with no end, balance, simplicity…A record. A concert. Like a whole life. Like one day. From sunrise to sunset. Circular. A lifetime, one day. 5 movements. 5 ages. 5 colours.
An album born of solitude with the desire to unite solitudes; and hence the contrast of the intimacy of a voice and a guitar with the chorus. Shared singing, dissolution of self, salvation. I like to imagine that here, all of you are the chorus. Let’s sing.”  Sílvia Pérez Cruz
