From within is the last record of Fernando Brox, a flutist and composer from Malaga. His compositions are inspired by folkloric sources, including flamenco, western African rhythms, American folk music and Cuban rumba, to create music which is both erudite and popular, that is challenging for the musicians and invites the audience to participate in the vibrant energy generated by a live performance.
Despite its short career, the group has had successful presentations in Switzerland and Spain at important clubs such as Moods (Zurich), Jazz Factory (Lucerne), Jamboree (Barcelona) and Jimmy Glass (Valencia). The audience at their concerts clearly perceived the commitment it has achieved between the intellectual and visceral aspects, and the introspective and celebratory nature, of its music.
The production of the album From within was financed thanks to the support of the Regional Government of Basil (Switzerland) and its programme to finance projects of improvised music. The quintet was selected together with five other projects from amongst more than 200 applicants.
