Leone and the spaghetti western
Leone –for Sergio Leone– is a rock band whose music echoes films, with one foot in Spanish songs (copla, bolero, Mediterranean) and the other in American music (surf, rock, country). The members of the band, formed in Madrid in 2014, come from different parts of Spain. Two are from Almeria, the desert and landscape of which is also a reference to the Italian filmmaker. The connection with Sergio Leone is seen in the western and “Americana” air of the band’s songs and in the stories they tell, with characters that remind us of Once Upon a Time in America. In addition, the band’s sounds recall the tarantella, Mediterranean boogie, and light music, which also have reminiscences of Morricone. Leone’s songs are cinematographic experiences that at times reproduce the mysterious atmosphere of Lawrence of Arabia and at others the movement of American road movies, but always hearken back to classic cinema.
