On a stormy evening, four old ladies full of resentment and bitterness get together at the funeral reception of Nazaria Alba Montenegro’s husband. The atmosphere lends itself to the conversation and gives rise to recollections, heartbreaks, hidden secrets and hatred that open a can of worms. Hatred, secrets and wishes will surface on a stormy night, from a baby’s murder to the death of a kitten… Atra bilis is a farce that combines grotesque carnival-like, diabolic and ghostly elements that create macabre monsters in a spectral atmosphere that seems to announce the imminent Apocalypse.
A savage comedy full of force and mischievousness. If Valle-Inclán, Lorca and Delibes had a son taken care of by Berlanga every afternoon, it would be this text by Laila Ripoll.
