Just a few days before the outbreak of World War I, Juan Martínez, a pure-blood Madrilenian born in Burgos, dancer and variety artist, faces, together with his partner Sole, an unexpected and singular vital incident.
Our main characters will try to survive in the cabarets, casinos and hostels of Istanbul, Bucharest, Saint Petersburg, Moscow and Kiev, where the most horrible episodes of the war take place.
El maestro Juan Martínez que estaba allí is a great lesson of courage, of overcoming difficulties, of accepting the big chaotic mechanisms of history and how they squash the small lives of ordinary people.
El maestro Juan Martínez que estaba allí tells one of the most transcendental and dramatic stories of the twentieth century, and in a certain manner of the Spanish tragedy. The biography of Vicente Escudero, a flamenco artist from Valladolid, seems to converge in El maestro Juan Martínez. One of the great transformers of the language of flamenco, friend of Picasso and Miró, creator of a new flamenco. His work, his freedom, his life has helped us create our Juan Martínez. 70 minutes of life, courage, history, theatre, passion and cabaret.”  Xavier Albertí
