Los santos inocentes, by Miguel Delibes, is presented as a mirror in which we are reflected, as a society and as individuals. And like all mirrors, it reflects our past to enable us to explain our present. The image we face is harsh, beautiful, savage…but above all deeply human… Javier Hernández-Simón
Los santos inocentes is one of the great novels of the 20th century; and its significance is amplified by the challenge of transforming it into a theatrical text. In an informal and incomplete summary, we must note that the universe created by Delibes is so solid and true that at times it seems to transcend its author, to exist above him and even in spite of him.  A universe inhabited by extraordinary, joyous characters, more vivacious and complex with each new reading, who stem from a lucid and merciless look at the Spain of an era, and a look at human beings, the world, and more importantly, at present day Spain. All of this with precise words that literature seems to invent in every line, and that whoever has read Los santos inocentes knows.
