ESCENA ABIERTA MÁLAGA is a theatrical series of the Teatro Cervantes Malaga-Procultura and the Malaga Provincial Government’s Department of Culture created at the proposal of the Romero Esteo Association.
Two old friends meet to talk, joke, argue, love and repel each other, reconcile…as they wait, day in and day out, for the mysterious Godot. An even stranger couple appears: the cruel Pozzo and his slave Lucky. Godot does not show up, but his emissary does, announcing that he will arrive “tomorrow”. The combination of humour, poetry, kindness and tension has converted Waiting for Godot into one of the most significant plays of the 20th century. Helpless, nomadic, disconnected characters who remind us that human beings are capable, in the most difficult situations, of getting back on their feet A universal classic that forms part of our collective memory.
Atalaya has become one of the most prestigious theatre companies in Spain, and a model for research theatre. Hailed by renown critics and by the jury that awarded the company the 2008 National Theatre Prize “for creating an original space for theatrical performance, production, training and reflection resulting from a long professional career”. At present Atalaya is the theatre company most valued by the Ministry of Culture’s INAEM standards. In the course of its 41 years of existence, it has performed worldwide in more than 600 theatres in 50 countries and six continents, and in all the provinces of Spain. It has also participated in nearly 200 international festivals and has won 60 awards, 5 of them abroad in non.EU countries.
